Holly arrives tomorrow evening.  We’ll leave when Herman gets home from work to drive to the Savannah-Hilton Head Airport to meet her plane.  Well I say meet her plane, but since 9/11, of course, all we can do is wait on Level 2 in the common area.  It seems like such a long time ago, when you could go right to the gate and watch the plane land, etc.  Katie made a big poster to welcome her.  We’ve seen pictures and all, but we want to make sure she feels welcome in America.  It will be a long night, but I am very excited that this day has finally come.  Our area representative is going to meet us at the airport so he can meet her with us in case there are any questions.

I think we are going to take all the exchange students in our area (there are 4 or 5 total) to Tybee Island next weekend.  Seth wants to take them all to the beach while it’s still warm. I guess the upper 90’s is what you’d call warm.  Because 2 of the students are girls and Seth isn’t 21 yet, all the overnight trips require an “adult” chaperone.  Herman and I will be filling in that spot.  It will be an adventure to say the least.  He also wants to take them down on River Street in Savannah .  I also thought this would give the students a chance to pick up any odds and ends they might have forgotten at home.  Swainsboro is a small town and doesn’t have much variety as far as retail shopping goes.  Savannah has two malls and plenty of shopping of every variety.

Off to bed now to rest up for tomorrow’s adventure…..

My cats have been kicked out of daycare.  Well not all of them, really just one of them – Scamper. But the vet asked that we find another place for them instead of boarding them next time because Scamper decided that it would be “cool or funny ” ( I can’t decide what was in his mind) to reach out and scratch one of the assistants.  This is not the first time he’s done something like this.  He has been known to back himself into the corner and growl when they come to clean his cage and also he’s scratched at others in the past.  This is no surprise to me, because he usually will go and hide in the rafters of the utility room when he wants to avoid something like monthly flea medication or going to the vet.  He’s scratched me in the past, but now he’s gotten everyone kicked out of “kitty daycare”.

But luckily our next door neighbors are willing to keep a look out for the three of them ( Smokey, Nemo and Scamper) for a weekend.  If it’s more than a couple of days we may have to find some kitty xanax to chill his nerves.  I’m not sure even that would help, though.

A week ago today,  Peaches Geldof apparently suffered respiratory arrest after a suspected drug overdose.  This is really sad to see because her mother Paula Yates died of a heroin overdose.  I hope she gets the help that she needs because Bob has suffered quite a lot of tragedy in his life.  This article really puts it all into perspective.  I hate to see Bob criticized because it always seems to me that the criticism always has a somewhat jealous overtone.  I pray Peaches doesn’t end up like Amy Winehouse.  At least Fifi has a real job and isn’t out getting in trouble.  Pixie could easily turn herself around and Tiger Lilly is too young for this stuff at the moment.

It’s no secrets to those around me that Bob Geldof is put up on a pedestal around my house.  I think he is one of the most remarkable people in the world today.  He is my hero.  I would love to meet him again and just hang out with him and be able to pick his brain.  There are very few people Herman would stand with me in an alley for 2 and a half hours to talk to for 5 mins. It’s too bad we didn’t have a camera with us that weekend.
