Earlier this week, we went through the interview and paperwork portions to qualify to host an exchange student for the upcoming school year. Her name is Holly and she is from Dusseldorf, Germany. She is 16, a year older than Katie. I just talked to her on the phone this afternoon and she seems really sweet. Language doesn’t seem like it will be a barrier. She’s into sports and is very excited to come to the US. I know you’re thinking why would she want to come to Swainsboro. Those of you who have been here know there really isn’t a lot here as far as shopping, no movie theater, etc. During the interview process, we found out that these students want to come to the US to study and see the real America, not the sanitized, homogenized, generic movie version.
We are really looking forward to showing Holly things around here as well as taking day trips to Savannah, Georgia, Tybee Island, Georgia, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, maybe Disney World, and all around the vastness that is Emanuel County http://www.cityofswainsboro.org/ .
Hopefully I can use this blog to keep everybody updated on this exciting and wonderful experience
