Travelling across US & DC

Terry & Josie at Vera\'sWe found out that telling your GPS to go the shortest distance possible will take you through places like downtown Charlotte, NC. While this is a beautiful site, the interstate probably would have been much faster.  But then again 600 and something miles is still a lot of miles from Swainsboro no matter which way you go about it.

Herman, Katie, and I spent Sunday night in St. Leonard, MD with the Hughes family (Linda, Terry, and Josie). Herman and Linda worked in the IT dept. at Atlantax for many years.  We had dinner at Vera’s Beach Club, which was awesome.  MMMM Lobster and Crab.  Monday morning we went with Josie and Linda to the beach a mile or so from their house and collected some cool shells.  It was the first time we had seen Chesapeake Bay. Hard Rock Cafe DCGrey Line Double Decker Bus Tour

After checking in at the L’ Enfant Plaza Hotel we stopped in at the Museum of Natural History and had lunch.  There were literally thousands of school touring groups in there. We did see the Hope Diamond and the Dinosaurs before heading back to the hotel for a rest.  Later we took the Metro to Union Station for dinner at Johnny Rockets ( Chocolate Shakes !!!! YEAH !!!!) then some shopping.

Today we toured some of the monuments and memorials (Lincoln, Washington, Korean War, World War II, etc.), had lunch in Georgetown and rode around on the double decker bus. Took lots of pictures.  Had dinner and a show at the Hard Rock Cafe tonight then watched an adult kickball tournament on the mall.  They were having a lot of fun out there.  The weather has been great today.

Tomorrow we are planning the Air and Space museum……..
